Underdogs is a cultural platform based in Portugal that encompasses a gallery, a public art program, the production of artist editions, and the development of commissioned art projects.

The client approached us with a request to revamp their existing website. The primary pain point identified was the cumbersome process of updating content on the site. The client’s digital team faced limitations in editing the website via the customizer, and most tasks necessitated developer involvement. Additionally, they wanted to improve their website for conversion and offer a better user experience aligned with their branding guidelines.

The Challenge

Improved User Interface

Enhance the website’s design to provide a more intuitive and visually appealing user experience. This includes optimizing layout, navigation, and overall aesthetics to make it easier for visitors to find information and navigate the site.

Conversion Optimization 

Implement strategies to increase the website’s conversion rate and average order value, with a focus on driving more users to take desired actions such as making purchases, adding related products, subscribing and  completing contact forms.

Simplifying Content Updates

Streamline the process for updating website content via the customizer. This involves making it easier for the client’s team to make changes to the website without relying heavily on developers, thereby improving efficiency and reducing turnaround time for updates and new artwork launches.

The journey

The project comprised several distinct stages:

Discovery

During this phase, we conducted a thorough examination of the website, identifying its strengths and weaknesses. We devised a comprehensive plan outlining proposed improvements aimed at optimizing conversion rates, enhancing user experience, and understanding the client’s backend functionality requirements.

Design Development

The objective was to refine the existing design and enhance user experience following the site’s current guidelines and design concept. We iterated through multiple design presentations, seeking approval from the client at each stage.

Development

Building upon the approved design, we started implementation of our scope of work. In addition to updating the Home page, Collection pages, and Product pages, several key enhancements were made:

  • Implementation of a bespoke side cart featuring additional upsell options
  • Implementation of advanced product filtering on Collection pages
  • Enhancement of product search functionality on the site
  • Improvements to the checkout process
  • Introduction of forms to capture user contact information
  • Assistance provided in setting up Google Shopping integration
  • Implementation of multilingual and multicurrency capabilities

Go-Live support

We provided go-live support during the updated website launch and created documentation and training sessions to familiarize the team with the new implemented capabilities.
